Per Scholas Rings NYSE Opening Bell To Celebrate 15th Anniversary

Per Scholas President and CEO Plinio Ayala officially opened the U.S. stock market July 20, 2009 with the ringing of the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. In celebration of Per Scholas’ 15th Anniversary, Plinio was joined on the podium by students from the Comp2Kids, Comp2Seniors and Computer Technician Training programs, and board members Diane Lenz Shanley, Marisa Riccardi, Manuel Barbero and Sara Lander.

The event also marked the partnership between Per Scholas and the business community that helps make our programs possible. Per Scholas is a part of NYSE Euronext’s U.S. Corporate Giving Program.

This great honor comes at an exciting time for Per Scholas as we look back on the achievements of the past 15 years and look forward to our plans for expansion and replication. Since its inception, Per Scholas has distributed over 75,000 low-cost or no-cost computers to under-served children and individuals, provided over 30,000 hours of customer service support, trained 2,500 low-income adults to obtain living-wage jobs in the technology field, and recycled tens of thousands of computers. Over the coming years, we hope to expand our impact to other under-served communities across the nation in our efforts to help bridge the digital divide.
