Enrolling in the Per Scholas Institute for Technology

Enrollment in the Per Scholas Institute for Technology is available to adults who are unemployed or underemployed. The program is free. We offer additional, tailored services for U.S. veterans and for women.

All applicants are guided through a 3-step admissions process. This process is competitive, since there are always more applicants than seats available.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for admission, in addition to being un/underemployed, candidates must meet the following basic requirements.

  • 18-55 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass basic English language reading and math tests
  • Available for all-day training sessions for length of program (15-20 weeks)
  • Interest in obtaining professional IT employment

Applying in New York City

Per Scholas’ New York training location operates primarily out of the Hunts Point neighborhood of the South Bronx. Our modern, fully equipped training center is convenient to the #6 local subway line (Cypress Avenue station) and to several MTA bus routes.

To begin the application process for training in the Bronx:

  • Visit Per Scholas at 804 East 138th Street (see map), Monday – Thursday at 9:00 AM, for a brief orientation. No appointment is needed, but please be on time.
  • After attending the orientation, think carefully about whether the program is right for you.

Next Steps

If you’ve attended an orientation or spoken with a Per Scholas staff member, and you’re convinced the Per Scholas Institute for Technology is right for you, then your next steps include:

  • Take the reading and math tests. If you pass the tests, you will be scheduled for an interview.
  • Attend your first interview. We will ask you some basic questions about your life situation, work history and goals. Bring a resume if you have one. Please arrive on time.
  • Attend a second and final interview. If we need you to bring anything to your second interview, we will ask you in advance.

Applicants will be contacted within 5 business days of their final interviews to be informed of their selection status.
